Open Question: Why are foreign films or foreign music not available in America?

Are all countries like this? Because in countries like Japan and South Korea, they know who many of the most popular American actors/singers are because they get some American movies there. Toy Story 3 and pretty much every other pixar and pretty much all Disney films are distributed in those countries and probably all most all European countries as well. All we have here is Hayao Miyazaki's movies as foreign films from Japan. I never ever see any cd's by German or Japanese bands in American stores like bestbuy, etc. In Japan Lady Gaga and Britney Spears have tours there, while actors like Tom Cruise and Johnny Depp go there for film premiers. Ask an American to name a Japanese singer or actor and the best they would be able to guess is "Jackie Chan". My Japanese penpals tell me about really good Japanese movies they see and I would like to watch them too. But of course, they will never be available for purchase except on the internet for really high prices.
